Breed 39+ : Tipped
The British tipped is a shorthaired version of the chinchilla and called "shaded silver" in other countries. Genetically it is silver, with the colour restricted to the very ends of the hair. The undercoat colour looks white, while the tipping helps to make the coat shimmer as the cat moves.
Tipping can be any of the British colours but the majority are black tipped. The breed was developed in the 1970's by Norman Winder (Peerless) by mating a longhair Chinchilla to a British Silver Tabby.
The tipping should be restricted to the back, flanks, head, ears and tail. The black tipped has green eyes outlined in black, the outline to the nose and paw pads are also black. Other colours are rarer and have orange eyes and the outlining corresponding to the coat colour.
The Golden Tipped is a close relative of the silver tipped and instead of a sliver coat the golden is apricot, again with black tipping and the green eyes.
COLOURPOINTED
There are a variety of coat colours much as in the British , and just a few are illustrated here:--
